One Year on the Road

Another great campsite at McKinney Falls.

We&#039;re not the only ones who love to loll in hammocks.

Good thing we brought three of them!

We loved hearing our neighbor practice fiddle.

One day we checked out Barton Springs.

It&#039;s a natural spring, built into a giant pool.

Diving amongst ducks.

The bottom of the pool is natural rock slabs.

The park has a little train for kids.

The free part of the springs is below the pool&#039;s dam.

Dogs are allowed here.

We just cooled our feet for a while.

This grackle needed a cool bath, too.

We came back the next day with Bailey.

She loved going for a swim

The current was just strong enough for good exercise.

The evening Marsha flew in, we took her to the park under Congress Avenue Bridge.

Thousands of bats live under the bridge.

Crowds come to watch the bats fly out at sunset.

It was hard to capture the bats in photos.

The took to the sky in massive clouds.

Afterwards, we went to the Shady Grove for dinner.

The next day, we took Marsha to South Congress Avenue.

It was time for another barber shop cut for me.

This one has been thriving since 1933.

I ignored the &quot;Men&#039;s Grooming&quot; sign and came right in.

Erik was my barber.

Erik gave me a traditional men&#039;s cut.

Including shaving my neck with a straight razor.

All done. Pretty short, but that&#039;s okay.

Next we got some candy at the candy store.

All kinds of candy, with circus nostalia.

Uncommon Objects is our favorite store for browsing.

It has the weirdest things.

Yes, that&#039;s a real zebra. :(

For lunch, we went to a trailer park.

This trailer had incredible food.

The chef was a character right out of the food network.

A fun Austin kind of place to eat.

And jewelry for dessert.

We&#039;d planned to swim at the springs, but it was closed for cleaning.

We went to the lower springs.

We had to satisfy ourselves with wading.

Back at the campground, we went to Upper McKinney Falls.

It was very quiet that day.
