Camping Resource Sites

www.harvesthosts.com – For a small yearly membership, gain access to farms, wineries and other places where you can stay a night or two for free.

www.passportamerica.com – Another yearly membership, offers half-price camping at thousands or RV parks around the country. There are a fair number of restrictions

www.thousandtrails.com – A pricier RVing club, but once you’ve signed up, you get 30 free nights a year at member parks. After you’ve reached the limit, it’s $3/night.

Favorite Apps

Allstays Camp & RV – Shows campgrounds, parks, RV repair shops, rest stops, propane service, and so much more on a map. We use this app constantly. It gives details on each place: number of sites, length restrictions, amenities, weather etc. We’ve found great places using this, including free camping. Well worth the $10.

Gas Buddy – Shows current gas prices around your current area or in a specified area. You can see prices on a map so you can anticipate price drops or hikes as you drive. Free

Waze – A GPS program that incorporates alerts and feedback from fellow travelers, so you can see more details about traffic issues, things in the road, speed traps, etc. It also include local gas prices.

Yelp – Lists customer reviews of restaurants, stores, services, etc. If we’re going to eat out, we always use Yelp to find a place with good reviews.

Flixter – Shows local movie times and places, along with ratings and previews.

Overdrive – If you have a library card, to any library in the country, this app lets you borrow online library books for two weeks.

Other Great RV’ing Blogs

www.gonewiththewynns.com – A younger couple turn life on the road into a full-time profession.

www.rvlove.com – Marc and Julie are both working while traveling full-time, and their blog includes lots of fun videos with advice about living on the road.
