One Year on the Road

Office of the air boat tours.

It was just us, two guys from France, and  our guide.

In an air boat, you can get into areas other boats can&#039;t go.

It doesn&#039;t matter if there&#039;s vegetation in the water.

You just glide right over it, like in a hover craft.

We were lucky to see this 10 foot gator.

And a smaller six footer.

They&#039;d come out of hibernation for the unusually warm weather.

Our guide, Brian, was a true Cajun native.

The swamp is more beautiful than I thought.

Great heron.

It was so peaceful.

The only other boat we saw.

Brian brought out his special little friend.

This is a yearling he&#039;d caught earlier.

He&#039;ll put him back later.

But for now, we got to take turns holding him.

He didn&#039;t seem to mind too much.

His scales were silky soft.

He was kind of cute.

We all enjoyed him.

Except David. He passed on holding the aligator.

Brian told us many stories about growing up in the bayou.

There are miles and miles of swamp &quot;backroads.&quot;

These are freshwater swamps.
